Cat + Bee = …

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

I just saw this thread on reddit about a cat that’s accidentally thwacked a bee.  I had no idea that cats swelled up in this slightly disturbing fashion:

Actually, that’s not quite true – my late cat Lotty once had a late-night run-in with a Mini, and her face did the same.  Perhaps most impressively, the cat doesn’t seem at all bothered.

Why do I find this important?  Perhaps it’s the wine.

Have a Heart

heart

In recent months, there’s been a surprising number of contemplative art games born.  Perhaps someday I’ll provide a full list, but in the meantime I recommend you check out Heart, one of the latest I’ve played.

There’s only one ending.

If you like that, and fancy a longer, more immersive adventure, then try out Judith by Increpare and Terry Kavanagh.  If you spend all day shooting zombies on Left 4 Dead, you’ll hate it.  On the other hand, if you have a soul, you won’t.

Rejected : Hardcore Energy 5

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I did the cover for the forthcoming Hardcore Energy 5 tonight.  An enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours pretending that I’m a graphic designer by drinking  organic tea and filling my thoughts with negative space and golden ratios.  Then I open Photoshop and twiddle with the colours on the previous sleeve from the series.

I’ll be reviewing a promo copy in these hallowed pages when the time comes, but in the meantime here’s an exclusive look at what the cover won’t look like:

This one was nice, but it’s a bit more Ibiza than Hardcore Rave.  Although it’s not Ibiza at all, because that’s snow, not sand – but I digress…

Born in the 80s, Pt. 2 : Here Comes The Sun…

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

After my first Born In The 80s list, Neil sent over a Balearic video which inspired me to kick back and remember a few summery tunes from the 80s.  (Well, ish.  I’ve lost his original link, y’see, so you’ll have to put up with my poptastic selections until he reminds me.)

Close your eyes and imagine yourself back in the world of Black Lace, giant sombreros, pina coladas and Duty Free

Sueno Latino – Sueno Latino

The Blow Monkeys, Amazulu and a glut of 80s holiday party tunes in order of descending quality after the jump…

Stick a deckchair up your nose

In honour of the 80s night I attended last night, here’s top tune of the night, and probably the only one I knew all the words to, too.  It was unfortunately played only briefly due to being “obscure” (pah!), but here it is in full.
