As you read this, I’ll be at this:
Hopefully I can wibble enthusiastically about it upon my return. In the meantime, have a nose at what you’re missing.

Another Funkmaster Phil selection from the bowels of YouTube, best described via a maths equation:
Nik Kershaw – 1980s + europop thumping * Cher’s vocoders =
Gigi D’Agostino – The Riddle
Heads We Dance have recently given away a big ol’ remixes album for absolutely free.
Starting off with a brain-mashing Sidechains remix that’s worth the download alone, producers range from the I’m-sure-I’ve-heard-of-you Tepr, and didn’t-you-make-loud-trance-once Don Diablo to I-approve-of-your-name Monsieur Le Menthe.
After a few listens, it’s nestled into my “listenable, but not outstanding” compilations pile, ideal for breaking out to keep the ears alive while burning the midnight oil. As I am now, and as I have.
…seems to be more or less the only thing that Funkmaster Phil says these days. But still, he occasionally spurs me off on a ramble around YouTube’s bass-heavy districts, and here’s some notable sonic architecture I recommend you visit:
The Streets – Blinded By The Lights [Nero Remix]
Funkmaster Phil said: “chek this bad boy!!”
Shinypixel says: “THWOB. Highly recommmended.”
Dizzee Rascal – Holiday [Nero Remix]
Shinypixel says : “Hmm… he sounds a bit stretched”
The Prodigy – Take Me To The Hospital [Rusko Remix]
Shinypixel says : “Jesus squelching Christ…”
Eve Stangello – Davali
Funkmaster Phil says : “a ‘tribute’ to steve angello and the swedish house maffia”
Shinypixel says: “Filtery filtery! But it samples Piano In The Dark so it must be good!”
Though some brand it pretentious, there’s a certain type of whimsical charm in the non-sequiteur stylings of Jim’s Journal, apparently penned by one of the the creators of The Onion, and syndicated around US university newspapers in the late 90s.
It’s an interesting browse which the eagle-eyed could probably pick up from a charity shop bin inamongst old compilations of Bloom County, Doonesbury and Calvin & Hobbes, even though sometimes it can be a little too true to real life…
